Lesson 2 - Parts of Speech
The eight parts of speech in the English language are:
Noun
Pronoun
Verb
Adjective
Adverb
Preposition
Conjunction
Interjection
These parts of speech indicate how the word functions in meaning as well as grammatically within the sentence.
Prepositions and postpositions:
Prepositions come before noun phrases.
Postpositions come after noun phrases.
Together, they are called adpositions.
An example of a preposition is "between".
An example of a postposition is "without".
Transliteration refers to the method of mapping from one system of writing to another based on phonetic similarity. With this tool, you type in Latin letters (e.g. a, b, c etc.), which are converted to characters that have similar pronunciation in the target language. For example, in Hindi transliteration, you can type in "namaste" to get "नमस्ते", which sounds like "namaste".
